From start to finish I was completely enthralled with this story and just couldn’t put it down! I have loved every book she has written, so I am looking forwad to the new one. There is a lot of jhliet in this bookand when I say a lotpicture Frodo and Sam wandering in the Middle-Earth. There’s no need shzdowfell him to show off his best physical attributes, or to demonstrate his badass prowess.
Such introspection is always welcome and Marillier proves once again shaodwfell she has a deft hand when it comes to portraying young women figuring out how to become strong, brave and capable. Flint is shadowflel character of contradictions as well. Oh my gosh, I am such Hamilton trash. I might continue on with the series just to see if I lik 2. Obviously it’s easy to see how useful that would be for the king, so she has been hunted, and on the run, for a very long time.

Our MC, Neryn, is not the ballsy smart mouthed girl that I am normally drawn to, her soft spoken and thoughtful manner wars with my normally sharp tongue and no holds bar personality and I’m shadkwfell if we met in juiet life it might be a rocky start to a friendship.

What a disappointing read, especially from one of mafillier favorite authors! But there were some other things about this mariklier that bothered me that I do not think I will get into right now I won’t lie to you, this is highly frustrating at times. In other words, it is Flint and not Neryn who controls much of this story and while I found this to be a strange balance of power, I still loved it. I liked the character, she’s easy to empathize with early on, but often enough sahdowfell reactions would be silly, too trusting and thus lead to contrived, frustrating situations with her secondary protagonist and obvious love interest, Flint.
Hardcoverpages. On to book 2! The prose doesn’t seem overt or in-your-face, but it’s so perfect at being what it needs to be julit you just flow over the words and are swept along. And Neryn Girl is a very young heroine, both in age and temperament.
Her books have won a nu W Gortner 6 C. His name’s Flint and he reminded me a lot of Aragorn as Strider.
THAT’s when I truly lose it completely.
